How Preschool Is A Good Start For Kindergarten

When you are trying to decide whether you should enroll your child in a preschool program, you need to consider a few aspects. These aspects explain how a preschool program helps your child get ready for kindergarten.

Academic Goals

The most important part of a preschool program is the academic goals the facility has. Many preschools start with basic lessons, which teach children to recognize shapes, colors, numbers and letters. For younger children, these lessons help them memorize these items so that further information is easier to comprehend.

After the children work their way through the basic lessons, many preschools take it a step further and teach them to read. For example, some teachers start with words that utilize one and two letters to show the children how grouping letters together create words. This process goes on throughout the year and many preschool children can read simple words by the time kindergarten starts.

Some teachers also do basic math lessons as a part of their classroom activities. The teacher may use items such as blocks or small toys to help explain how addition and subtraction work.

All of these academic goals give your child a great head start as kindergarten begins. He or she will already have the basic information, which allows them to progress through the beginning portion of school much easier.

Routine Building

Aside from academics, the preschool program gets children ready for school by establishing a routine. For many children who have never been in daycare, the routine can be a little difficult to get used to at first. The teachers work with the children to help them understand why the routine is important.

Additionally, the routine helps maintain a progressive order throughout the day, which is similar to actual school days. For example, the teachers will do the same tasks every day, so the children can learn what to expect. This may not seem like an important aspect at first, but it will help them to adjust to the pass that their future kindergarten teacher will set.

As a parent, you want to make entering into school a positive experience for your child. One of the best ways to do this is to enroll them into a dedicated preschool program.

However, if you are still unsure whether this is the best option for your child, you can contact the facilities in your area and ask about their programs. All of them will be happy to explain the lesson plans they offer, so you can feel confident in the one you choose.
